PRESS RELEASE
MISSION RAISES £6,000 AT UK’S PREMIER SHIPPING DINNER
The Mission to Seafarers would like to thank Dr Grahaeme Henderson, President of the UK Chamber of Shipping for choosing the charity as this year’s UK Chamber of Shipping Annual Dinner beneficiary. The Mission is delighted to announce that a total of £6,000 was raised at the event at Park Lane Hilton on Monday evening (6.2.17).
The event, a highlight in the shipping calendar attracted over 800 of the industries great and good and served as a timely reminder that that UK still remains and the centre of international maritime trade.
One of the primary reasons Dr Henderson chose the Mission was to honour the tremendous work of Revd Canon Ken Peters, who recently retired from his position as Director of Justice and Public Affairs, at the Mission. Ken has spent 38 years working tirelessly on behalf of seafarers and is regarded as one of the world’s leading international seafarers’ welfare advocates.
Revd Canon Andrew Wright, Secretary General of the Mission to Seafarers said, “I would like to thank the President and the staff of the UK Chamber of Shipping, and all those who donated so generously at the dinner. It is heartening to know that those organisations that wholly rely on seafarers are willing to help fund the Mission’s vital justice work around the globe.”
