Nor-Shipping, the leading maritime event week, today opened registration for this year’s 5k charity fun run. Taking place on Monday 29 May, the event aims to raise £100,000 for Nor-Shipping’s 2017 partner charity, The Mission to Seafarers, the world’s leading maritime welfare charity offering emergency assistance and practical support to seafarers.
The non-competitive 5k run will begin at 5pm on Monday 29 May, taking a scenic route around Oslo city centre, including Akershus Castle, and finishing at Tjuvhomen. The entry fee of NOK 500 per participant will go directly to supporting the Mission to Seafarers vital welfare work at over 200 ports around the world.
Birgit Liodden, Nor-Shipping Director, commented:
“It is fitting to mark the start of one of the largest meetings of the maritime community by doing something to give back to the seafarers that make our work possible. The first fun run at Nor-Shipping 2015 was a thoroughly enjoyable icebreaker event for all who took part and we look forward to building on its success. Seafarer welfare is vital for the future of our industry, and we hope that both attendees and exhibitors will join us on the starting line to show their support for this worthy cause.”
Hande Ari, Head of Events at YoungShip, whose members are volunteering to support the organisation of the event, commented:
“Our volunteers will be out to support the Nor-Shipping fun run for the second time to make sure the event is once again an excellent experience for participants. The 2015 event was a great team building activity for the various companies and delegates involved and is a great show of support to the seafarers our industry relies upon.”
To register for the event, click the link here or go to http://bit.ly/NorRun17; all participants must register by 25th May. Event registration will take place at Tjuvholmen, in front of Bølgen+Moi, and changing facilities will be available at Skur 13 Filipstad.
Laura Brown, Corporate Engagement Manager for the Mission to Seafarers, added:
“We are delighted to open for registration our second fun run at Nor-Shipping to help raise funds for seafarers from across the world. This year’s route is very scenic and I am sure that the run will help get the event off to a fantastic start. We are encouraging as many delegates as possible to dig out their trainers and get running for charity.”
