James Smith Cowie

29/11/1928 - 26/12/2020

Jimmy loved the sea and had a healthy respect for its many moods.

Born into a fishing community on the Moray Firth, his life revolved round the sea and the family seine-net boat, the Unison.

After ‘serving his time’ in a Buckie shipyard, he joined the Merchant Navy as an engineer, sailing to Africa, Canada and Australia. Later he was on a regular trip from Harwich to the Hook of Holland.

Leaving the Merchant Navy, he worked as an engineer for the SSEB, later Scottish Power, and retired from Methil Power Station in 1992.

Jimmy had a long, happy retirement, spending time with his family and never staying too far from the sea for long!
