How do we help the seafarer of the future? That’s the question being posed to the shipping industry and maritime charities on 11th September at London International Shipping Week (LISW). To register to attend, please visit: https://lisw.inmarsat.com/the-future-crew/
We’re coming together with three other LISW nominated charities to ask the industry to share its thoughts on the impact of technology on crew welfare, with an emphasis on mental wellbeing.
As the industry embraces new technologies to make shipping safer, quicker and more environmentally friendly, Apostleship of the Sea (Stella Maris), Mission to Seafarers, Sailors’ Society and Seafarers UK are drawing on our 400+ years of combined experience to explore with industry leaders what the seafarers of the future will need in terms of welfare provision.
This crew welfare event is being held on London International Shipping Week at Inmarsat’s headquarters (99 City Road, London, EC1Y 1AX). The shipping conference will include a keynote speech from Dr Grahaeme Henderson, Vice President, Shipping and Maritime, Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Ltd. His presentation will examine the importance of seafarer wellbeing to business performance and share examples of technology application, its positive aspects and also the challenges it creates.
The remainder of the shipping event will see four panel discussions covering how technology can improve life on-board, seafarer mental health and how maritime charities can prepare for the new technology age.
The LISW nominated charities are particularly thankful for Inmarsat’s support during London International Shipping Week.
To see the programme details in full, and to register to attend, please visit: https://lisw.inmarsat.com/the-future-crew/
The shipping conference will then be followed by ISWAN’s International Seafarers’ Welfare Awards ceremony, which honour the welfare heroes of 2019 (as nominated by seafarers). For more information, please see: https://www.seafarerswelfareawards.org/
