The National Sea Sunday service was held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, at St. Peter’s Fort in Colombo amidst a large gathering of friends, partners, well wishes and prayer partners of the Mission.
The Archdeacon of Colombo, the Venerable Christopher Balraj, Presided at the Eucharist, assisted by the Reverend Jayanath Panditharatne, the Vicar of St. Peters Church Fort.
Cadets from the CINEC Maritime Campus also participated in the Service.
The lessons were read by representatives from WISTA, SAGT, the Harbour Master and a representative from the congregation of St. Peters Church Fort.
The Chaplain of the Mission in Colombo, the Venerable Perry Brohier, preached the Sermon, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to look after our industry’s most valued asset: the human beings or Seafarers who make so much happen.
The Music Ministry Choir, led by Neranjan de Siva and Ishan de Lanerolle, led the singing.
The opening sung at the service was All Creatures of God and King, Eternal Father strong to save, I the Lord of Sea and Sky, Christ is made the sure foundation and Jehovah thou has promised.
The Sri Lanka Navy band was in attendance. They provided solemn music in preparation for the service and the National Anthem at the end of the service. The bagpipers and buglers of the Sri Lanka Navy band also participated in the service.
The vote thanks was delivered by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Mission to Seafarers Colombo.
A representative from the office of the President of the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka read a message from the President for National Sea Sunday.
Members from the Diplomatic community were also present at both the service and the time of fellowship that followed the service.
All who attended the service were invited to the Mission Centre for fellowship.
