June 2026

Introduction

The month of June has been a relatively busy month, even though a slight decline can be noted in the number of Ships visited.  While ship visits and Seafarers at the Mts Centre were brisk at the beginning of the month, the trend gradually diminished as the month progressed.

It is difficult to attribute the sharp spike in last month’s numbers to any specific cause, but it can be safely concluded that some of it was due to the uncertainty and instability in the industry stemming from the global crisis triggered by the situation in the Middle East.

Ship Visiting

At the heart of the Mts ship visitor teams’ routine is the systematic planning that goes into each day’s ship visiting. This point of first contact sets the tone for the visits to the Mts Centre that take place later in the day, once Seafarers have completed routine on-board duties.

The on-board conversations have been pointed and educative, helping us connect with Seafarers as they reach out. The uncertainty with which they continue to carry out their work is apparent no sooner than our interactions go beyond the initial pleasantries.

Seafarers are looking forward with eager hope and anticipation to a Peaceful environment and space to pursue their livelihoods.

It is also hoped that those responsible for the Peace of the world would keep these helpless individuals in mind when they make decisions that often have far-reaching consequences. Too often, these individuals who keep our supply chains serviced and running, who are taken for granted, become victims of people’s violent actions even though they may be beyond being third parties to the conflict. They are sadly collateral in the conflict of others, which is extremely immoral, to say the least.

This month, the ship visitor team has made 148 ship visits.

Home Away from Home – Life at the Centre

The Mts Centre continues to be the water hole and a safe space for tired and challenged Seafarers who often seek a change of setting from their usual on-board environment. The Mts staff make every effort to ensure their visit to the Mts Centre is a refreshing experience.

In this regard, the recent value addition at the Mts Centre has been a souvenir shop. There seems to be a growing demand for the merchandise on sale at the shop.

In addition to the souvenir shop, free Wi-Fi and free transportation are offered, along with mental health and spiritual support, along with a non-intimidating, safe space featuring recreation and leisure activities.

The Breakdown

The numbers emerging at the end of every month help the Mts ship visitor team evaluate its activities. At times, external factors such as weather (heavy thunderstorms or extreme heat), routine vehicle maintenance, or even challenges faced on some vessels can affect the outcome of our collective effort as a team.
