Knitting (temporarily on hold)

Please note: Knitting received from you is very much appreciated by the seafarers and is sent out to the port centres on a regular basis. However, due to Covid-19, we currently don’t have full access to all the ports and the port chaplains are unable to undertake ship-visiting at full capacity. Therefore, I’m afraid we have to ask you to hold off on sending us further knitting right now.

We appreciate all the knitting received and all the hard work that goes into it, we know how much it means to everyone. Thank you for your continued support.

While we have had to put knitting on hold at the moment, do follow this page, as going forward you will once again be able to help seafarers all over the world by joining our amazing group of knitters!

The knitted items we receive help seafarers arriving in the UK and around the world during the long, cold days and nights spent on the open seas. From woolly hats to fingerless mittens, each knitted item finds a home and the seafarers they’re matched to are extremely grateful for the extra warmth!

Please see our Knitting Patterns document for items that seafarers practically need for their day to day working lives.

Items that deviate from these patterns may not prove useful for seafarer needs.

Please note, we are no longer accepting knitting at our IHQ in London. The destination for all knitting has permanently changed to our centre in South Shields, where they will be distributed to appropriate ports once received.
