Why it’s important to celebrate seafarers with a Global Day of Action (GDA)

No matter where your organisation is based , or which type of service your company provides, you will notice that we all rejoice in the same things, such as a happy relationship, the birth of a child, professional or personal victories and other milestones. Similarly, we all mourn the same things, such as losing a loved one or facing a major setback or disaster.

Currently Seafarers could be experiencing any of these events, and missing many more, as they remain stranded at sea and unable to get home.

If we take a closer look, we’ll see that there is a common thread of themes that connects each and every one of us. We will see that all of these occasions centre on universal human experiences such as love, sadness, joy, and sacrifice.

A seafarer’s life is undoubtedly one of sacrifice and a Global Day of Action allows us to acknowledge the difficulty and sadness a lot of seafarers endure.  A Day of Action can serve to highlight the stories of these important individuals and bring some joy back into their lives.

The significant benefits that a GDA would bring any organisation
Cultivating a sense of collaboration and community

One of the most opportune times to bond with our work colleagues is during planned celebrations. A GDA can give all your organisation a chance to really connect with seafarers and illustrate to the wider maritime sector how much you care.

Instilling a sense of meaning and significance to the working lives of your employees

The uniqueness of a GDA serve an important purpose. Participating in such an events connects your employees and teams to the significance of your support and instils a sense of pride via their participation.

It will create lasting fond memories for all your workforce

The human mind tends to recall memories that carry a high emotional charge to them. When we commemorate a special occasion, we are essentially placing a mental bookmark for an experience, thereby making it easier to remember it in the future. The photos and videos from a GDA will serve as a trigger that your organisation can use to inspire your employees in the future, and a lasting reminder of the good your organisation has done to the global community of seafarers.

Above all else it will show seafarers they are not forgotten, and they are valued

The Mission can work with you every step of the way to ensure your Global Day of Action will deliver genuine and tailored impact. With our help and your dedication, we can make it a resounding success.
