MtS World Maritime Week reception receives support from Liberian Shipping Registry

We welcomed sponsorship from the Liberian Shipping Registry (LISCR) at our Lambeth Palace reception, held to mark World Maritime Week in October 2011.

The Mission has a long standing relationship with LISCR as our Director of Justice and Welfare, the Revd Canon Ken Peters, is engaged in training Liberian flag state ship inspectors on how to implement the welfare recommendations outlined in the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.

At the event, Ken said of the LISCR’s sponsorship, “It is pleasing that Liberia, a major flag state, recognises the importance of seafarers well being and are ensuring their inspectors understand welfare principles and concerns. It is a very rewarding experience to share the Mission’s historical knowledge with those who come into contact with seafarers and can make a difference to their lives. Furthermore, I am delighted to thank the LISCR for their sponsorship of the Lambeth Reception.”

The Lambeth Palace Reception brought together supporters and professionals from the shipping industry to hear about the Missions work with victims of piracy and the work we are doing to ensure that seafarers' welfare is at the forefront of the industries response to the increase in attacks.
